I am changing the front cam seals in a 2000 Montero Sport 3.5L.
I had assumed the seals go in flush until I noticed whoever installed them last left them slightly protruding. Which prompted me to examine online photos of the Mitsubishi specialty tool.
It appears to me that the tool installs them slightly recessed.
Am I correct that the tool installs them recessed? And if so, can anyone tell me how deep? Or does anyone have the cam seal installer and also have a caliper where they can measure?
On my 94 Montero, the seals were just a bit inward, and not totally flat to the outside surface. It was alot easier for me to replace these while putting the camshaft back on.....I could just lay them in place as I lifted put the assembly back together.
