Yamhill? Is that anywhere near Podunk, or East Undershirt?

As far as MPG, frankly I've been afraid to look. As long as it's running fine, I'm happy. Yesterday, I just changed the oxygen sensor; today, I got new, lighter weight oil installed — 5W-30 (20W-50 was in it when I bought it for some reason) plus a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil, and totally new lubrication for the manual transmission (which was low and dirty), and had both driveshafts lubed. She's sounding great, riding smooth, and I bet my mileage is better. Guess it'll have to be subjective, then....

I found the original window sticker in the glove box, and that lists the mileage as 16 and 19. Plus, it went for just over $30,000 when new, which was a tidy sum for a vehicle back in 1995...

I'm not a huge fan on the Sport, but I could live with one, but I absolutely LOVE my Montero. I gotta say it's the best vehicle I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few.

I was surprised not to see ANY of them during my trip back East.... I do see the Libyan rebels have quite a few of them over in North Africa...LOL...

 

I am in maryland. I don't see too many older monteros. I have spotted about 3 others like my 86 montero. They tend to stick out with their boxy brick-like look, especially around the new rounder and sleeker and sport models. I don't think the montero sport was invented yet when I bought mine in 87. I see plenty of these newer ones, but mine is terrific. There was more snow in maryland than at the last winter olympics, and this montero was the badass of the moguls. Have to give it up though, not using it enough and have too many cars. Joined this forum to find my montero a new home with someone who appreciates the ruggedness of the old guys.

It could be a regional thing. They are rare here in New Jersey. When I lived in California it was definitely more common to see Montero's yet still nothing close to the numbers of the Toyota and Nissan SUV's. That's part of the reason I love the Montero because of its uniqueness. I've owned two a 97 LS and my 02 LTD and if they didn't discontinue production I'd probably be on my third...
