Default New owner questions

greetings all,

i hope to join the montero family two days from now. plan to purchase an '03 montero limited with 130K. looks like it has been well-maintaned (timing belt receipt, etc)

the owner said the only issue with the rig is that the 4WD light comes off and on in the dash area, but this doesn't correspond to the vehicle engaging in and out of 4WD. is this a cause for concern, or has anyone else experienced this?

also, any tips for things to look for when i'm doing the inspection. (i know all the basics, but just wondered if there is anything this monty is prone to that i should be looking for. called our local dealer and they said to listen for something akin to a valve ticking sound from the engine, and that this portends bad things - but i don't remember exactly what those were)

thanks in advance for the help!
