Nice Price or Crack Pipe? 87 Dodge Raider $7k
Hi everyone!
I'm new here. My name is Zack and I'm based in Atlanta. I've been searching for an 80's era Montero or Raider for some time now and I have found one out of state that I'm interested in and have put a deposit on.
It's a 1987 Raider with 49,250 original miles on it. I've pulled the carfax and verified those miles to be correct according to the service records and registration records.
It's at a mom and pop used car dealership and they are asking $7,000 for it.
They say it's in great mechanical and physical shape. The main issue they say is the clear coat is cracking. I've got an independent mechanic heading over there today to check it out for me to see if it will be road worthy for an 800 mile ride home. I've asked for him to check for rust (It's been in Connecticut and Ohio all of its life), gaskets, cracks in the manifold, and all the other regular stuff you check on an old car.
The price is higher than other Raiders and Monteros I've found but I've yet to find one that looks to be in this clean of condition.
Two questions...
Anything really specific I should have the mechanic look at for this model?
Is $7k a fair price?
Thank you all so much for your thoughts! If this goes through I'm looking forward to spending some time on this forum!
Cheers,
Zack
