Default Re: Power brake booster replacement on a 03 Montero Sport

I'm getting a vacuum sound when I go to apply the brake on my Montero Sport.
I believe the power brake booster needs to be replaced.

Is this a difficult r&r?

Any tips or suggestions on this job?

Any links on replacement for a 03 Montero Sport LS 3.0?

Thanks

What does a 'vacuum sound' sound like?

On my '02 limited I started hearing a sound like a bird chirping from in front of the driver position (under the hood) whenever the brakes were pressed but that turned out to be the power brake accumulator. That was an easy 5 minute replacement. I forget how much the part cost but I think less than $50.

It should not be a hard job. Couple bolts and few clips. The mounting bolts for it are on the inside of the firewall - might be a little tough to get to. You'll be re-using the master cylinder, unless it is bad.
If you have a leak in your vacuum brake booster, you need to address it because 1. your brakes are not functioning at 100% power; 2. Eventually you'll get a Check Engine Light because you have un-metered air entering the intake manifold.
