Default Removal of drip molding

Hello,
I bought a 2005 Montero last week and it appears to have been parked under fir trees in the wet Northwest for many years. I spent a couple days cleaning and waxing and she's looking pretty nice now. However, there appears to be a lot of fir needles and algae growing under the roof top drip molding (plastic molding in the drip rail under the roof rack rails). I would like to remove the molding and clean under them, but don't want to force/break the plastic. Any helpful soul ever remove those pieces? How are they anchored?

Thanks,
Richard

HunterD,

Thanks--that is close. Mine has the sunroof and I think it has 3 separate pieces (similar to #8 and #9 on the pdf). Any idea how they are removed? I really hate to start prying without having an idea of how they are held in place.

Thanks,
Richard

Don't know how they are held. Never had to have mine out. The diagram shows that the design is similar for both with and without sun roof. I'd say, try to gently pry up the molding from the back. If it comes out - you got it. If you encounter resistance - you can stop and examine what is holding it there.

HunterD,

Give me a couple days and I'll report back on my experience. I'm headed to the junkyard for a few parts tomorrow or the next day and I might experiment on one of the wrecked vehicles!

Thanks,
Richard
