Well it's a good thing I put that gauge in!!! I told my wife to keep an eye on it, it should always be around 14. She and the kids went to the mall and she called me about halfway to the mall and said it was on 12, so I got ready and went and met them so I could follow her to autozone and exchange the alternator once again. When we left the mall and got about a mile down the road it had dropped to 10, by the time we got to autozone it was on 8! So I changed it right there in the autzone parking lot. They didn't give any problems this time!! LOL This one should last til after vacation then I'll buy the mitsubishi one that jrmdir linked to.

How long have you had it installed on the truck? Mine were fine for about 2 months. And they came with lifetime warranty too. But we're still scared to drive it out of town because of fear that we'll get stranded on the side of the freakin' highway.

I posted another thread in the "everything else" section asking if there was anything possible on the truck that would be causing these to go bad or if they are just crap and two months is the life of one of these.

So far this one is doing okay.

Does anyone think the radio could cause and alternator to go bad? I mentioned this a long time ago when the first (original OEM) alternator went out. When you turn on the head lights the radio volume drops drastically and the bass gets all distorted. I didn't think much about it, except that it's annoying. Then one night the lights on the radio when off and the volume jumped up to where it should be and sounded good, then the lights on the radio came back on and the volume went back down. Well, the other night we where driving and had the radio completely turned off and the lights on the radio were fading in and out. Of course I know it isn't supposed to do that, but I was wondering if maybe some sort of short in the radio could be frying the alternators?? I'm thinking of pulling the radio completely out to see if the volt meter goes up any? And maybe testing the harness for the radio in the dash with a multi-meter To see what happens to the illumination and power wires when the lights are turned on.

Any ideas? Thanks
