Question Timing belt

Hey all,
When I was doing my belt change on my Monty sport, I noticed that the lower portion of the engine (lower crankcase before the pan) had what looked like fresh gasket sealer on it, the oil pan was somewhat clean and new-ish looking. Do you think it could be a rebuilt engine? Where are the block serial numbers? I ask this because the Monty just rolled over 110k miles and I need to change the timing belt (if it is the original engine). When I get back from my trip next week I plan on taking the inspection cover off and inspecting the belt. I bought it last month and it has been running great (minus the noisy lash adjuster until it's warmed up), I've changed the oil, filters, battery ect and still have more work to do on it. Any help is welcome, thx.
Rob
