Default transmission fluid

Hi, I'm a proud owner of a 2002 full monty ltd will 98,350. My question is, what transmission fluid can i use? Is there an alternative to the dealer that works well? Thanks for all who read and answer

I only use MM ATF fluid for my fluid transfers.
These folks will ship it right to your home.

STM: FLUIDS | ENGINE OIL | TRANSMISSION | ATF | TRANSFER CASE

This is an on-going debate among Montero owners...some say there is ATF out there that can be used, but I've also heard horror stories about transmissions after using non-MM fluid.
My rig just clicked over 120k after an extended 4x4 trip to Colorado and is performing without a hitch.

Good Luck

I'm not familiar with which transmissions are in which full-size Montero models (I have a Montero Sport) but if you have any type of Invecs transmission, do not use anything but Mitsubishi Diamond SP III ATF.

As Mr. Z stated above, this is a matter of great debate, and you will find anecdotal stories about people using Dexron plus an additive, or Mobil 1, or Chrysler ATF +4 with "success". But you will also find as many anecdotal stories about people with mild to severe transmission issues who use these non-Mitsu fluids. What you probably won't hear much of is people with transmission issues who use only SP III.

It's cheap insurance to just use the right fluid. Do it right and forget about it.
