Default Wind noise?

I have a 1997 Montero LS that exhibits a noise at speeds above 60 MPH that resemble heavy rain drops on the windshield. It also sounds a little like a loose tie down would sound on your cargo rack as it pounds against the roof. I have checked all of the obvious things. I don't see any loose parts anywhere. I wonder if the windshield could not be seated or sealed properly? Has anyone else experienced this?

This may be oneof the "obvious" things you checked, but I've had my windshield trim pieces fly off three times. Before they left for good they made a sound like you're describing. See if you can pry up the black pastic trim pieces on the left or right sides of your windshield.

Otherwise, I don't have a clue.

Thanks- I will try that. I do have a small rock chip so this may be a good excuse to take it into a professional and have the chip repaired and the trim inspected.

If you don't have water in your cabin or dash it might not be the sealant.
