Thanks for the follow up Richard. Yeah it sounded like something was not right and was malfunctioning. I guess it was either a 3 hour roundtrip or potential hours of electrical troubleshooting. It doesn't sound like this could have been easily solved on the phone. I suspect it wasn't snapped in tightly to begin with. Vibrating a harness connection loose isn't even possible in real world driving, even severe offroading. Glad problem solved.
