USB cable

USB cable
Does anyone know why you have to use a USB cable and not connect the USB stick directly into the outlet, I just purchased a Samsung USB 3.0 stick which is supposedly fast, but what speed does the USB cable run at.
Is it really necessary to use a cable, I know the manual advises it, but WHY??

It is just for "heavy" USB devices to protect the USB port. Your USB stick should be fine without the cable. That being said, I do not think the USB port is even USB 3.0. We do not need USB 3.0 to play music files.

The usb cable is probably referring to use with a usb harddrive, not flashdrive. I have used both and work fine. My flashdrive is plugged directly in.
guxu: FYI, usb 3.0 is not necessary to play files, but it makes transferring files from your computer much faster. usb 2.0 works too. If you don't have too much music, it probably doesn't matter, but then again, usb 3.0 drives don't cost much more these days.
