I apologize if the topic was covered but I searched and did not find anything.

2004 Outlander, 4cyl. Switched to sport shift today when going up a hill to down shift and it would not come back from sport shift. You can move the selector back to D bu the sport shift stays active and the dash display just shows the gear you are in. Never happened before but I have only had it since Dec. 124k miles. No CEL and it runs fine. I got 23 mpg the other day in town (I do cheat and coast down hills and up to lights in neutral).

Anyone experienced this?

I took the battery completely loose +&- let it sit and put ti back on and its fine but as soon as you push the shifter to sport mode it says there until you do the battery again.

I am far from dumb with cars and think its a sensor/switch/relay issue.
