Default 07+ check your battery

Just a fyi, over christmas/new years holiday trip, I was looking things over and noticed that my battery is not a maintenance free type. I opened up the cell plugs and checked the water level. All cells were low. I put almost a 20oz bottle of water among all cells.

Never checked mine, I believe dealer checks it during oil changes with multi point inspection and topping off all fluids.

Klas is right, the battery is part of the 27 point check the dealer does as part of the oil changes. In the US Mitsu replaces the battery free of charge if it fails within the first 2 years, and at 50% cost for the 3rd year.

well I guess what shocked me was that it was not maintenance free. I'm used to such batteries for lawn mowers, motorcycles, and whatnot, but I didn't expect it on a newer vehicle.

Default I checked mine and...........

It was low by about 3/4 of an inch on all the cells. Even though the batt says "maint free", it also says to check the water level on occasion. Soooooooooooooooooooo, time to get a gallon of distilled water. I hope the battery will last for one more year for me.

I decided to check mine and I can't really tell how much water is really needed. Where is the measurement?

there are plastic tabs that extend down into the fluid. if it is low, you'll be able to see the water/acid below with a flashlight. you fill it with distilled water until the level hits the tabs. it is pretty easy to see with a flashlight. the water tension will grab the surface of the plastic tabs and the reflection will shimmer/shake, it'll look like someone shaking a mirror.

it would also be useful to have something that will shoot a small jet of water in it (I'm thinking like contact solution bottle) so that you don't get any water on the outside of the battery and accidentally flush debris into the battery.
