07 outlander front end noise help!!

Yes, sway bar end links can seem tight while on the car but can be going bad.

They are so cheap and easy to replace it is almost always the first thing to try first if you can't see obvious torn ball joint boots, or the like.
Jacked up drivers side of car today, wheel hanging free. grabbed the wheel at 9 & 6 and felt a little bit of play. Took the wheel off and grabbed the brake rotor and shook the same way and noticed about a 16th to an eighth of an inch of play in the tie rod end boot, and could hear a little noise.. Wandering If any play at all is ok or not and if it has to be replaced how hard is it to do?
