Default 07 xls crossmember help

I had my 2007 Outlander XLS to the useless dealership two years ago for the crossmember recall. I pointed out to them that the crossmember was already showing signs of inordinate corrosion. They deemed it fit for use and told me that they coated it with an anti-rust agent. Case was apparently closed along with the recall. Had to bring the vehicle in for the windshield wiper fix this past winter and ask them to take a look at the crossmember again as it was severely rusted, their reply was that it looked fine. Just had the vehicle in for tires and inspection and was told it won't pass inspection because you can stick your fingers up through the crossmember because of corrosion. Call the same dealership and got a hand to my face and an attitude. I was told there were no open recalls on the vehicle.. I remarked to the service advisor I'd have been better off not to have brought it into years ago to have it spray-painted because if I'd have brought it to you now you'd have had to replace the crossmember. She replied that she didn't know anything about that and couldn't comment. I told her I was asking just to make sure that both of us weren't insane. Call Mitsubishi Motors directly and they told me that the spray paint fix only has a warranty of 12 months! They also said they were sorry but there was nothing they be willing to do for me... has anyone had this issue and did anyone have the problem rectified without being lied to and taken advantage of.?

Mitsubishi didn't change my recall part either all they did was slap some goop on it. I would contact Highway Safety Comission, Better Business Bureau, contact a manager in Mitsubishi Corp. Put in complaints everywhere. Post on their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and anywhere else you can. The squeaky wheel gets the Grease. Leave negative reviews for that Dealership on Yelp, Google Reviews, Facebook, Etc. Raise Hell!

I did contact the National Highway Traffic Safety board.... do you believe that they told me that Mitsubishi didn't have to fix it because they've already fixed it according to their recall standards.. Case closed. I told the guy at the traffic commission that they were all in on it ... He told me it was nothing personal. I told him that have a great day because mine was turning out miserably..

I agree, fix was crap.

Used ones all over car-part.com...about 200 bucks. Properly seal it before going in.

Thanks for the tip. I know you've replaced most everything on your vehicle at least once! , have you replaced the crossmember as well? Do you remember how involved it was and can you offer any procedural advice if so?

I don't understand why the dealer would want to avoid replacing a bad cross-member as part of the campaign. Don't they make money off warranty work?

Dealers only get a % of the full going rate to do the same job when covered by the OEM. So if the book says it's 1 hour to do the job, they only pay the dealer .6 hours, which says: 1) either their own time/job lists are inflated to rip off customers not in warranty, or 2) they push the burden of recalls onto the dealership network where they give us bad service to avoid losing money or not making as much money. Ever try to get recall work done on a Saturday?

I'm hoping that I can devise a reasonable repair for the hole that is in the center of the crossmember before it gets worse.. Thinking of sanding it down and using a black over rust treatment type product..

Have not had the pleasure, but have looked at it and thought about it.
Lower control arm would have to be disconnected on both sides...at least so they can swing up and away.
Power steering would have to be unmounted....I'd try to suspend it upward.
I would think there would be an engine mount...
Then I think you could remove crossmember from the body.

To be sure, I'd have to go through service manual. PM me if you want it.

Have you gotten it fixed? My 2008 Outlander has the same situation now. The dealer want to replace other parts around to when replacing the crossmember. It's about $3000 extra, not includes the Crossmember. But they failed to replace it in the recall.
