Default From 08 XLS to 18/19 GT?

I知 hoping to get some feedback from any of you who have gone from one of the earlier-year V6 models to a more recent one.

I currently drive an 08 XLS and I知 looking at replacing it with something new. I had been thinking I would up-size slightly so considering the usual suspects (Sorento, Highlander, Santa Fe) but now am wondering if I really need the extra room and towing capacity. My Outlander has treated me really well.

If you went from an XLS to a GT what are any big improvements and what are the downgrades? The feature list for the GT is pretty impressive now but I知 disappointed that the current iteration of the V6 requires premium fuel.

Thanks.
Rob

If you could go for the PHEV https://www.mitsubishicars.com/outlander-phev/2018
All the technology will make it a night and day difference plus they still have great government rebates.

Yeah, the PHEV looks very cool but I'm needing that 3500 lb tow rating that only the conventional GT has...

I cannot tell your location but if you need solid AWD performance stay away from the PHEV. Here is the proof why:
For comparison here is the same test for the regular Outlanders ( both AWC and S-AWC)
Disappointing performance for both hybrids.

Thanks, AWCAWD. I am in the Northeast U.S. (Connecticut) so snow performance is important. I find the 4WD system on my current Outlander works great, so I'm assuming the Super-AWC on the current GT would be at least as good.

I do not have a comparison of S-AWC performances but here is one for the simpler AWC in 2nd and 3rd generation Outlanders. It appears that the new model completes the challenges a bit sooner but having only traction on one of the rear wheels is an impossible task for both without a lockable rear differential.
