Hi all,
I’m new to this forum and looking at buying the above model. The car has done 76000 miles with no record of the timing belt being replaced.. is it a belt or chain? I am being told conflicting things about when the belt/chain needs to be replaced! Some say 75000 and others 150000 miles! This is a show stopper on whether I buy the car or not if someone could help please.
Thanks in advance... Rob

I have the same car. The auto has the PSA belt driven 2.2 engine (same in the c-crosser & 4007) and the manual has Mitsubishi’s 2.2 chain driven engine. I got mine at 3 years ago at 58000 and I’m now on 94000 with the original belt. As far as I’m aware the belt needs changing at 150000 or 10 years old (which ever comes first). My car is a 2010 so I’m going to get the belt changed after Christmas.
The main thing to look for with this engine is a sign of an oil leak. The Crankshaft rear main seal has a tendency to leak (cost me £500 to get replaced last year). I would still recommend this engine over Mitsubishi’s own though as I’ve seen too many of them with engine failure before they’ve reached 100k

I got the seal replaced at a local independent garage in Keighley. They are an automatic transmission specialist and the only garage I could find that were willing to do the job. I thought the price wasn’t too bad considering they had to remove the engine to gain access. The car has run perfect since without a single issue. I will most likely go back to them for the timing belt. I went to a few other garages that were diesel specialists but they didn’t want to touch the automatic gearbox.
One more thing to check out is if it has had the windscreen wiper motor / linkage replaced yet as there was a recall about a year ago.

That was a good price! Have you got the name of them for future reference just in case? I have read about that wiper motor recall and I will check with Mitsubishi in Cannock if mine has been done or not. Would they charge anything for that? Or would it be a FOC repair?

It was B A Transmissions in Keighley that repaired the seal, they had to keep the car overnight. So it took 2 days in total to carry out the repair. Mitsubishi didn’t charge me for the recall for the wiper motor / linkage. You should also be able to check if there is an outstanding recall on the MOT history website.
