I have 117k miles on mine and the front left spring has always made a funny noise (knock on wood) the thing has held up just fine for ten years. But I took it to the dealer twice in 2007 to ask them why the left front spring makes a clunk sound when fully extending/compressing while traversing a rut or a substantial bump/curb - always slowly, never at more than a crawl.

I wonder if the two things are related?

I live in LA, so no salt - parking at the beach makes it not worth visiting - and never any rain, snow, etc., so no corrosion on my baby. Everything undercarriage is practically factory new. But it still makes the funny spring noise all these years later.

I posted a picture last week but it's still under revision by mods. Can someone help releasing it? Thanks

First broken spring occurrence here; driver side. Had struts replaced last year, but springs are original and now out of warranty. About $350 each installed at dealer. You won't save much by having it done elsewhere, as the part is about $100 even on the cheap. If you're replacing front suspension parts, you're best off getting a quick-strut replacement that includes a new spring. It's about the same amount of labor as replacing just the spring, and then you have a new strut and new spring.

FWIW, my broken spring is not rusty. I think it's just a defective part.

I am a new Mitsubishi driver (ive always purchased Honda sorry ) and I have a 2007 Outlander Warrior which i purchased 9mths ago , ive never used it off road and dont carry any heavy loads and it has just over 20,000 miles on the clock and to my shock, the front drivers side suspension spring just snapped! I have since had it replaced to allow me to drive it again but surely thats not a good thing as far as quality is concerned? Will the other one snap soon too ?
Ive wrote to Mitsubishi informing them of my experience but im sure they'll just put it down to wear and tear and fob me off. I dont have extended warranty because i didnt think i would need it. Could this be a manufacturing fault in the metal used for the spring ? Im no mechanic but ive never had to replace this kind of part even on previous 4x4s surely this lifespan is really short?
I drove a Ford Escort before with one snapped spring. Also lost oil pressure once while driving. Car wasn’t maintained very well and sat outside all the time.

Wanted to chime in that my driver's side spring cracked while pulling out of the driveway. Loud bang noise scared the crap out of me! Lol.

2007, garage kept it's whole life, 109k miles. No sign of rust or corrosion on the spring or upper strut portion.
