Default 2008 Outlander Stereo

hi,

I have a 2.4l cvt outlander.

Can the rockford system work without amplifier?

I just got a used outlander with amplifier missing. It is not easy to get hold of the particular model. And Mitsubishi asks 800$ for a new amplifier unit. The service advisor said that you cannot use any other company's amplifier as this system can only work with Rockford amplifier. They said you can mess up the car if you put in another brands stereo-even if it is a complete system.I guess they are wanting me to shell out 800$ for the amp.

I see cheaper models of Rockford online but I am not sure whether they would work. This one:
Rockford Fosgate - Prime Series - R250-4 250 Watt 4-Channel Amplifier---- retails for 90$ which is reasonable in terms of cost.

I am new to the amplifier concept as all the other cars I had just had a stereo and speaker.I am a complete layman in audio systems.Any help is appreciated!!

I don't think the stereo is going to work quite the same using an aftermarket amplifier. The digital signal processing is all done in the amplifier itself, not in the radio. Also the speakers in the doors and the woofer in the back are not your standard 4 Ohm Impedance that you see in a lot of aftermarket systems.

Two places I'd suggest calling to see if they might have a replacement amp to sell: Downtown Radio of Denver (303)573-6288 or United Radio in Syracuse (800)634-8606. It's worth a shot. Or possibly even try a salvage yard for a used one.

Thanks for the info!

I am little confused here. The aftermarket I am referring to is Rockford 250Watt instead of the Rockford 650Watt which comes with the car. The rockford 250W prime series 4 channel one if that can work I am good. I dont mind compromising on loud sound. But i dont know if that has same signal decoder as the 650W one. I am not technical at all when it comes to amps.

There are other cheaper ones costing me around 40$ but they are chinese brands.

I live in India so the stores in US would not be able to help.I tried contacting one guy who listed the amplifier on ebay(salvaged car) but he said he wont ship to India. This was a month back.

The Prime R250X4 is a completely different animal than the OEM Rockford amplifier. I will check with a source I might have in India to see if there is a chance if finding a factory amplifier for that car.

Thank you very much for your efforts!

I called up Mitsubishi here and they said the part number is 8701A279 retailing for 43,000 Indian Rupees (approx. 700$).

I have sent you a PM to take a look at. We are getting closer to a remedy.
