Question 2010/2011

Hi! Everyone. I'm from Ontario Canada here. I am thinking seriously about buying the Outlander XLS or GT but my big problem is the premium gas u have to put in. To me that is a BIG turn off. Please can any one help me with this issue I do really like this truck. Thanks Twilight

There is no Outlander GT in Canada. It is called the XLS here.

Put in regular, that way you will have less HP and waste more fuel. It probably comes to the same cost at the end. It will end up having the same fuel economy as the 09 and earlier if not a bit better.

I never understood the entire fuss over premium fuel. On average (filling up 12 gallons) it will cost you no more than $3/4 dollars more, yet it will provide your car with a bit better performance and lower fuel consumption plus you will also pollute the earth a bit less. If a person can afford a $25-$30K car, I see no reason why a person can't afford premium fuel :s

Yup, there is a very good thread about fuel already.

Also, its recommended, NOT required.

I always just put regular in...no problems, and I almost do not notice a difference in consumption or power loss.

The V6 in the XLS has a dual knock sensor, one for premium, one for reg. fuel. So you are good either way.

Premium in Ontario is about $0.09 to 0.14 more /litre. So the difference can be up to $10 a tank. That makes a huge difference, when considering that you only waste a few more litres when running regular gas.

Additionally, why would you waste your money on premium, IF you can use regular?! - to me it has nothing to do with the cost of the vehicle. Not performing scheduled maintenance to safe money is being cheap and
unsafe.
