2010 Outlander LS Fuel Economy Update
I purchased my 2010 Outlander in January with the 3.0 V6 engine. I've been tracking every tank of gas and mileage to see how I was doing and if it would get better.
From new I was getting about 14.2 L/100km (19.9 MPG - Canadian Gal). Now I'm averaging around 13.6L/100km (20.8 MPG). This is pretty much all city driving, maybe 15% highway. There are 5250km on the vehicle, but I've read people seeing increases in efficiency up to the 10,000km mark.
Does this seem reasonable to you guys? The specs listed on Mitsubishi Canada and Natural Resources Canada Fuel Consumption ratings list city driving at 11.2L/100km.
I guess you also have to consider this is during winter driving, so cold temperatures and winter tires I'm sure do not help with fuel economy.
Now that the weather is warming up and with my winter tires coming off next week I'm expecting to see another small increase in fuel economy.
Anyways, just thought I'd pass along my findings so far.

TROFLEK SAYS:
Your fuel consumption for a 3.0 ltr engine driving 85% in town is not bad at all. The specs are always better than the practice. In summer the fuelconsumption will get a little lower however don't expect too much.

Hello!
My avarage on 2008 LS 2wd 2.4l is 24MPG. I drive in Florida and it's a little bit warmer here then in Canada I got 50k miles. Usual distance for one way is 12 miles with avarage speed 24-30MPH.
My friend has 3.0l and avarage is 20MPG.
Possibly your fuel economy depends on cold weather.

My Data
Received my 2009 V6 XLS in early September 2009. This is my gas mileage to date - I also plot the average temperature between fill ups in Toronto. Any really low entries are likely highway trips like the 8.4 L/100km in July.
You'll notice a mileage improvement in June of 2010. I'm not sure when the fuel stations switch from winter gas (more ethanol?) to normal gas but that might be a factor too.
It seems that when the average temperature gets above 15°C is when fuel consumption goes down.
Two things that increase your fuel consumption in my opinion:

Two things that increase your fuel consumption in my opinion:
- The vehicle automatically increasing RPMs to get up to operating temperature faster on cold mornings
- The air conditioner compressor running on hot days

I have a 2009 XLS with 42,000km on it. During the winter I keep it in 4WD and 2WD in the summer. I also tow a 2,100 pound trailer about 4,000km per year. I get an average of 11.39 L/100km. Thats 60/40 highway to city over the past 12 months.
The 2009 and earlier were only rated 33 MPG on the highway vs. 34 MPG for 2010 and 36 MPG for 2011 so it should be a little better in the newer models.
I just put a new set of Michelin Hydro Edge tires on and I'm told they make a differance.
Over all I am very happy with the economy I get. My sister in law has a '07 Pontiac Torent and she gets about 15.5 L/100km with less size and power.

I've been monitoring the fuel economy of my 2010 Outlander GT since my purchase in July 2010. I currently have just over 13,000 miles on my odometer. My mpg numbers come from a smart phone app that tracks fuel economy. My overall fuel economy has been 22.19 mpg. My highest mpg tank of gas was 27.08 mpg. That was during a long road trip and was pretty much all highway driving. My worst was 19.37 mpg. That was 80% street driving. I drive in "tarmac" mode most of the time. Only in heavy rain was "snow" mode used. Due to the dry climate where I live, I've only used "snow" a hand full of times during heavy rain. I use 91 octane for fuel and describe my driving style as conservative. I'm very satisfied with the fuel economy of my Outlander.
