Default 2011 Outlander 3.0L XLS S-AWC mileage vs. Escape

Hi,

I'm looking at the Canadian 3.0L Outlander XLS S-AWC and was wondering what I can expect for mileage. What about premium fuel as well? Is that required?

I have my selection down to the XLS or the Ford Escape 3.0L limited....you can't even compare them in terms of features but if the mileage is that much worse and needs premium it really makes it tough to justify.

What do you guys think in terms of the mileage? (l/100km). On paper it looks good in Canadian ratings (11.0 city, 7.9 hwy) (26/36mpg in brit mpg) but does that sound realistic?

If I do some test driving does the Outlander have a realtime mpg to give me a rough idea?

Is there anything else that should be cause for concern about considering this model?

Thanks.

I average 10.5l/100km to 12.5/100km at about 60 % highway at between 100kph to 120 kph and 40 % city. If you do alot of city driving then gas millage is not really great. Then again, if you are looking for a very effective all wheel control, you have to go for the XLS. Mine is equipped with studded winter tires and it is a blast to drive on ice and snow. I too looked at the Escape but the AWD was to basic for my taste. So, good shopping.

Mileage is highly depending on driving habits and city/highway ratio, but comparing 2005 Ford Freestyle SEL (3L, 203 HP, FWD) and 2010 Outlander XLS I obtain about 1-1.5 l per 100 km less on the latter in the very same conditions.
