Default 2011 Outlander LS Towing Package???

Hi friends,

Couple of weeks ago I bought a used 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander LS (Canada), 3.0L V6. I wanted to get a hitch installed from a local auto shop but I read somewhere that I need towing package installed before anything else.

I have no idea how can I check whether my car already has that or not. Do I even need that?

Can someone please help me with this coz I have to haul a trailer for 3000 Kms next month.

TYPICALLY... "tow package" factory installed on a vehicle means hitch, wiring, tranny cooler, oil cooler, heavy duty radiator, beefier suspension

Now each company is different with what they add... but if you don't have the hitch on it, I'm guessing you don't have the "tow package"

Doesn't mean you cant put a hitch on it thought... but tow rating with only hitch on a NON FACTORY ASSEMBLED model would be 1000lbs

The towing package on my 2010 GT (V6 model) was not on it when I bought but the dealer said it only includes a hitch and wiring harness.

All V6 models should already have a tranny cooler.

The hitch can be ordered from Amazon.com for around $140 shipped and the "factory style" harness is about $30.

The hitch takes about 2 hours to install and most of that time is taking the muffler off of the pipe flange and putting it back on. Most likely the three bolts will snap off the muffler so you need to use an angle grinder and slice off the welded on nuts on the flange (very simple) and use new bolts with nuts and washers to reattach.

There are 6 threaded bolt holes already in the frame rails but I strongly recommend you use a tap and chase the treads to clean them up otherwise you risk damaging the threads in the frame. The tap you need should be 10mm x 1.25.

The harness is easily installed by removing the Jack out of the side pocket and popping the side pocket on the wheel well and you have good access to the wiring plug. The power wire will require you to remove the battery and find the factory plug up behind the headlight then reinstall battery and connect the ring terminal to the positive battery post.

Give me a few minutes and I will attach a few links for you to order the parts from.

It is quite simple really.

I would wait to buy the hitch far until you know if you need a drop or raise hitch for your trailer. Most likely you will need a 2 inch raise bar hitch, Outlanders are fairly low.

yup, my 2009 v6 already had a tranny cooler radiator. So the tow package is just a wire harness completion and tow hitch.
