2012 3.0 exhaust update
Well, just finished my pre-winter inspect and discovered that my muffler is developing some holes. Pricing out the mufflers has given me sticker shock. $500+ for the muffler (just the part)(Canadian). At that price I'm going to explore other options. Bolt-on aftermarket exhaust systems seems to be non-existent. With that, I'm going to be consulting some local pipe-benders to see what can be done.
I'm not looking for a performance upgrade necessarily (though not going to argue against it), but if I can get stainless installed from the cats back for under a grand, that's probably what I'm going to do. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay 500+ for a tin can that'll be burnt out again in 4 years.
Does anybody else have experience with installing an exhaust system outside of OEM on their 3.0 Outlander? If so, what did you do, and how did it affect the sound/performance/efficiency of your vehicle (if at all). If anybody has tips/suggestions/comments/critiques are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Rockauto only has 1 option. $300, zero warranty. Also, if the muffler is going, how far behind is the front (flex) pipe and the resonator assembly (neither available at Rock Auto)? The long and short of it is; I intend on keeping the vehicle long term. I'm not a huge fan of going outside of OE specs for a daily driver but at these prices I'm going to explore other options.
I've replaced everything in the middle on my 2007 V6 Outlander, which I think has the same exhaust system. I did not replace the front-most piece with the flex pipe or the muffler. The other pieces have become available in the last year aftermarket. They're probably not OEM quality, but they're a hell of a lot cheaper. It looks like there's even an aftermarket muffler available now, too. Ebay.
The other key is finding a muffler shop that will patch in their own pieces of pipe as needed. That's how I got away without replacing the muffler for so long. The shop bypassed a rotted flange and installed a small section of pipe to save the muffler, which was otherwise fine.
