Default 2013 DiD Outlander Intercooler Pipe split

Just picked up my vehicle from my Mits dealer after a 130,000klm service. I asked them to report on a slight oil splatter on the underside of the bonnet, near the front of the engine. The diagnosis and solution they gave was -
  • The intercooler pipe is split.
  • I am likely to get a DPF warning soon
  • The pipe needs replacing.
  • The oil (engine excess??) will need to be drained.
  • The oil level counter will need to be reset.
  • The pipe will cost $620 and the labour will be #220.
My questions are -
  1. I have noted that my engine oil level has risen slightly since the last oil change - I do my own oil & filter changes. Would the increased oil level have anything to do with the inter cooler pipe problem or does it indicate another problem?
  2. I have noticed significantly cheaper compatible IC pipes on eBay. At age 70 I’m becoming less inclined to crawl under the car, but how big a DIY job is it to replace the pipe?
  3. When they say “the oil needs draining” does that mean engine oil from the sump, or from the DPF, or somewhere else?
  4. Is the DPF burn off triggered by oil level in the DPF itself?
  5. Whatever oil level the oil level counter counts, how hard is it to reset the oil level counter? Presumably I’d need access to a diagnostic service tool.
My general knowledge on turbos and DPF operation isn’t high, so apologies if the questions seem a little basic.

  1. I have noted that my engine oil level has risen slightly since the last oil change - I do my own oil & filter changes. Would the increased oil level have anything to do with the inter cooler pipe problem or does it indicate another problem? Increased oil level is caused by dpf system not working, due to split in pipe

It is a pig of a job to replace the pipe. the end on the intercooler is the problem, the clip is in a bad position. you need to remove the under trim under the radiator to get to it.
  1. When they say “the oil needs draining” does that mean engine oil from the sump, or from the DPF, or somewhere else? The engine oil should be changed, not just have the excess drained out. The oil is diluted with diesel fuel, and could damage the engine

Presumably I’d need access to a diagnostic service tool. You need to reset the oil counter, and force a regeneration before the oil is changed. If you change the oil first you are just going to contaminate it by doing a forced regeneratio

get a quote from a dealer. They could be cheaper, and should have a better understanding of the problem
