Anyone Install an extra 12V plug in the cargo area of the Sport?
I want to run a compact fridge/freeze back there; good way to keep e.g. milk, perisables for long road trips especially camping trips.
There is a 12v plug between the front seats/inside the storage box.
Really want a clean look and don't want to plug the fridge from the back to the front, and have the power plug wire hanging (besides might not be long enough).
Anyone Install an extra 12V plug in the cargo area of their Sport?
How did you do it?
Or anyone run a power terminal like this Rig Runner for about $70: http://www.westmountainradio.com/pro..._id=rr_4005h_c
Thinking of using something like this to connect directly to the battery, and then run a spare 12v plug for the fridge.
Plus I could also use extra output on the terminal to run a CB and maybe a small inverter for running small electronic device that are not USB power source type.
Anyways, just thinking out loud here. Thanks!

I would highly recommend tapping right into battery.
A compact fridge (unless made for a car) runs a pretty high chance of drawing too much power from that cigarette lighter.
In my old car (Eclipse), I ran a 4 gauge cable from the battery to my trunk (thru firewall and under carpet) and then put a power distributor back there. I had too many toys in my car back then.
It was very nice. I always knew I would have power for whatever crazy thing I wanted to put in my car next.

Hey rip14, I am leaning towards running it directly to the battery and a terminal power strip like the one I posted.
The fridge is made for automobiles; ave amp draw .53 and when the compressor is running 3; temp setting 30F. Power input is 35 watts.
Compact fridge/freezer size is 18"L x 12"W x 16"H and the lid/opening is on top. Fits in the back of the limited cargo area of the Sport and still have space for a few gears.

Check the back-right area for a trailer harness connector. On the Outlander it connects directly to the battery (you have to connect it in the engine bay via a spare 4-wire connector), so it should be fairly similar for the RVR.
My '09 Outlander has a 12v cigarette lighter style socket in the rear cargo area right above the jack cubby panel. Judging by your screen name, you must be referring to the Outlander Sport, which I guess does not have this feature.
To answer your question though, it should be a relatively straightforward install. I'm pretty sure they sell the sockets at a variety of auto parts stores, and you would just have to cut a hole in the panel using a hole saw of some sort and then make sure you find a good 12V source and use the correct gauge wire. Good luck!

We get these as standard in the UK.
Pretty sure mine actually has 2 12v outlets in the trunk space.
May even have a spare socket kicking about but shipping may not make it worthwhile..
Let me know if you want me to look up the part numbers etc..

Thanks for the info ivanz and firstorbit.
And also thanks for the offer on the spare part hotponyshoes; shipping will be added cost; I was able to source out the parts I need.
Is your vehicle the ASX in UK aka RVR in Asia/Canada aka Outlander Sport here in the USA? I don't see any 12v out in the back. I see two in the front (under the stereo and in the box between the seats).
Post some pic of the ASX with the 12v plug in the cargo area if that's case; get some ideas of the location; thanks!

Hi,
We don't get the ASK (afaik) in the UK. Mine is a Warrior, this is actually imported into the UK as the very base spec car then has leather and alloys added when it gets here.
Don't have a photo but will take one when the other half gets back.
look here:
http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/out...fications.aspx
Click the 'convenience' tab and it shows hoe there are floor, luggage and center sockets listed as standard...
Location wise, I think it's just next to the button for the fold-down rear seats.
