AVG fuel consumption reset
This is a spin off, of a thread that started in the "What do you hate?”.
I had posted that you can set the rest mode for the fuel cunsumption from Auto to Manual, based on the owner’s manual, I had not tried it myself. I have since tried it and I can set the reset mode just fine, but it’s not persitant. If I turn the engine off and restart it , the mode is set back to Auto. I read a bit more in the manual, and uner the section that explain what the manual mode does, they state
“When the ignition switch is turned to the “on” position from the “ACC” or “Lock” position, the mode setting changes automatically from manual to auto”
Even in the Auto mode you can do a manual reset at any time, what’s the use of the manual mode if it automatically switches to Auto. Am I missing something, or does this make no sense what so ever?!?

It goes like this. In Manual reset the MPG will reset when the car has been off for 4 hours back to 0. In Auto it will reset everytime you restart your car. So in Manual mode its not setting back to Auto its just resetting after 4 hours. If you go out and turn your car on every 3hours 59 mins it will never reset.
I have the Europe model with the navi system and there is an option that shows the average consumption for the total mileage (since last reset of manual mode).
I believe that the option simply changes the display, either for the overall consumption (manual mode) or for the last 4 hours consumption (auto mode) but I'm not very sure because i have the car only a few days....

I have to say this fuel consumption resetting thing is very annoying - it resets so often it renders it completely useless. It's impossible to gauge true average economy over time with it resetting every 4 hours or when you turn on the engine.
No clue what they were thinking when they came up with this - whats wrong with every other car manufacturers economy meter, that only resets when the driver tells it to?

Auto and Manual are two seperate modes.
Auto: Yes resets every so many hours or you can simply press reset at any time.
Manual: Resets only when you press reset - manually.
Yes it does switch back to the Auto mode display every so many hours or so. However the manual mode is still calculating MPG until you switch to manual mode and manually press Reset.
At least this is how it is on my 08 w/Navi. I use the Manual mode to check MPG with every take and then use the Auto mode to check MPG in different driving situations and reset it while on interstate or through town or just different speeds just playing around. So really it is two seperate modes.

I remember someone questioning the accuracy of the built in MPG meter. Does anyone have confirmed cases of this happening? In other words, if you burn a tank of gas without having the meter reset, refill and note the quantity used, how does this compare with the AVG displayed?
I drove to the other side of Houston over the weekend (about 60 miles) and the display showed30.7 MPG, and I am wondering how much I should believe this number.

In which mode (automatic or manual) you saw wonder data?
I can say that MPG meter in Outie is very accuracy. For exact determining of fuel consumption you should to switchto manual mode and never forget reset it after refueling. But reseting of "manual AVG" indicator is very stupid procedure, as many guystold about.
