Default Brake work

I replaced the brakes on my 2010 Outlander GT with Akebono (ACT866). The brakes I replaced were original OEM and had the metal shims on both pads- inner and outer. When I installed the new brake pads only the inner shims would fit, the outer shim didn't. I did not put the shim on. Should I be concerned that the outer shim is not on? So far, I have not received any chatter or squealing.
