Default Braking problem

Hi,

I recently purchased an 07 Diesel Elegance. Amazing car and is driving great (only had it a week).

But, today, after a 70 mile drive, the brakes started acting strange and I wondered if anyone had any idea.

When braking (not when slowing down without braking) it started making a noise almost like rubber or plastic rubbing (but very loud) - then it stopped - then it started doing it again - now it is almost a grinding sound whenever I brake.

Could this be pads? Bearing ? Something slipped ?

EDIT: Left car outside house for about an hour then went outside and drove it again - this time no noise at all. Heat related ? Today is the first long drive I have done APART from when I bought the car, that was a 120 mile drive and there were no probs (earlier in the week).
