Default Cabin Filter missing something?

Hey all,

I recently went in for my 15,000 mile maintenance on my '08 Outlander XLS. Originally, they were going to check the cabin filter for me to see if it looked dirty. After thinking about it, I told them to forget about it and only change the engine filter, because I didn't want to pay for the cabin filter to be changed anyway. Well, I had looked at the cabin filter some months ago when I was trying to find a rattle coming from the glove box and I could swear I remember that there was some sort of foam or something blocking my view through the white plastic grid on the front of the housing. I don't remember being able to see through that grid and view the actual cabin filter in there, nor did I remember being able to see the black foam above the filter. So, I asked if they had removed anything from the housing to check the filter and they said they didn't touch it. Is there supposed to be something inside and behind the white plastic crosshatch vent on the front of the cabin filter housing. I could be imagining things, but if anyone here knows or could check their's out I'd appreciate it. I'd rather not be missing something, if there's supposed to be something there that's part of the works.

Here's an update, if anyone is interested. I did check out the floor model at the dealership and it had a black filter on the inside blocking the square openings of the white housing. Something which mine didn't have anymore, or so I thought. It turns out that the black filter swings up and down inside the housing to cover that opening depending on whether or not the in-cabin re-circulation mode is engaged. So, I wasn't missing anything, it was just positioned on the upswing.
