Unhappy Clicking noise/sound step on brake when park

My Outtie has only 6K on the clock and all in a sudden starting yesterday I heard something I never heard before --
when I step on the brake pedal at park, there is a pronouned "click" coming from the shifter area before I even touch the shifter.

I was thinking it may be the brake/shifter interlock mechanism starting to fail on only 6K miles!!? but the shifter lock does not move out of the park position unless the brake is pressed so it works as advertised.

I googled it and seems like a quite common and "normal" issue, at least not a safety issue, and seems like no fix available... but wondering WHY this annoying CLICK happens all in a sudden and WHAT triggers that??? ANY OTHER Outtie there with this issue?

Any Ideas? Thanks

its been happening since '07. you tune it out eventually...like the ABS self-test when you first start to drive.

MIne has been doing it as long as I can remember. I recall others saying that it just started on their vehicles, but I am pretty sure mine did it from the get go. No problems at all.

Like ccernst said, just tune it out.

Yep no issues. It's standard.

Yup. Mine too. I suppose it has always been there but I only noticed it recently. To me it sounds like the mechanism is loosening somewhat, but it still works as it should be.

This would drive me ABSOLUTELY INSANE!

Hooray for driving 15+ year old cars that don't have any of this bull****.

Many, many cars made in the last decade do whats described by the OP.

This is like saying the turn signal "clicking" sound is too loud and annoying

I know, because I've heard it myself. I didn't know it was normal though :/
