Default Clicking sound from center console

Hey guys,

I have purchased my 2009 Outlander ES 4WD in November, everything has been good up until today. I have around 5500 miles on it. Anyway, my issue, just happened today, whenever I press the brake pedal (it happens only when transmission lever is in park (P) position), there is a loud clicking noise coming what appears to be transmission area. Up until now I have never had this noise, everything was nice and quiet. I assume its the park-lock release but again, the noise just came in after 5500 miles. Is this something I should be concerned about? Is there a relatively easy fix for this? I don't want my dealership to disassemble the CVT tranny because I know it's not the easiest to work with and I don't want them to really mess it up. Any help/input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

EDIT: I have searched this forum and I see that it is a quite common occurrence, dealerships are saying that it is a "normal" occurence, but how can it be normal when for 6 months there was no noise and all of a sudden now there is :s

Is it coming from the shifter area? If so, then it sounds like shift interlock disengaging, which is normal.

When you hear the clicking sound, the lever is unlocked so that you can shift it to reverse, and then netural and drive.
