Default closer to buying, but a few questions.

I went out on Saturday and hada close look at the outlander and even convinced my wife(she-who-makes-the-rules) to go for a test drive. It didn't happen because the salesman I was dealing with was out with someone else and our two year old was getting cranky, but at least there was interest.

I live in Calgary, Canada and getting any reduction off MSRP on a Toyota and Honda is not possible here...the market is crazy. Any Alberta buyers with experience with Mitsubishi and getting the best deal? Go elsewhere in the province? Go to the US? Help.

I am interested in a 4wd LS, possibly the convenience package, but definately not the sun/sound...I would like the space that the sub takes up and don't need a sunroof( I have one in my current "ride" and never use it).

I went to Platinum Mitsubishi here in Calgary and they have two new 2006 Outies in the showroom and a few 2007s outside. Did the 2006s sell so poorly that dealers are sitting on them this deep into 2007? Lots of used 2006s on the lot as well.

Does the 3.0 liter engine have a timing belt or chain? Do the valves have self adjusting hydraulic lifters or do they require checking/adjusting?

I drove a 380 in Australia as a rental for a couple of weeks(looks a lot like the Galant here) with the 3.8liter engine and 6speed auto and was really impressed by the transmission(and engine to a lesser degree). Is this the same 6 speed as in the Outlander?

Towing capacity seems to be 3500 lbs with the 4wd, is that correct? Also, where to get a hitch in Calgary or Alberta?

I also plan on getting a set of steel wheels and a good set of winter tires to swap each spring/fall. Anyone know the bolt pattern and offset for the wheels? Size of the center hole?
Thanks for any information.

I also found a 2006 that had some miles on it but had never been titled. I went with the 07.

You cant tow much 1500? with the 06 the engine is to small and the vehicle isnt set up for it. The 07 will tow 3500 make sure you get the hitch written in the purchase after it is 2x as much cost. Unless you go with aftermarket.

The timing belt change on the 07 is 100K I think. I can check for sure later. No valve adj on 07 not sure about the 06. They both have timing belts.

The 06 has a 4 speed tranny the 07 6

4cyl vs 6 cyl 07

07 is larger, also has the drop down tailgate. May be the first year of adding stabilizer to the top of the strut towers not sure about that one.

as far as features and interior I am more of a practical person so Im not the best to ask about that.

Depends what model your looking for..we called all the dealers in AB to see when and XLS was coming in and they are few and far between.
Maybe the LS model is easier to get without it being loaded (the dealers seem to be getting XLS w Nav, which we did not want). We flew
to ED for ours. Price wise there didn't seem to be much movement since there are not too many around.

Loads of posts on hitches with photos will help you with this. I plan on getting a curt hitch (uhaul has them for $160, ~30 min instalation)
sometime in the near future. Can go the dealer way but is much more expensive.

So far its has been lots of fun to drive and a big spacious 2nd row for kids seats (we have 2) and that was a major plus about the outlander.
That was the issue with the Santa Fe was that with a tall driver there was no 2nd row space. Features for the cost are pretty good values.
Actually once you own an outlander you start seeing them all over calgary

Remember that the 06 and 07 are COMPLETELY different beasts. The 07 is based on the new Lancer chassis, a complete redisign from top to bottom.

I'm pretty clear on the differences between 06 and 07. The 06 we saw in the showroom had a much higher floor height in the rear hatch that wouldn't work for us anyway.
I'm just interested in getting a good deal on an 07 LS 4WD. Not sure if blanket emails to all dealerships in Alberta would work or if there is a better method.
I'll buy the hitch from U-haul when the time comes.
We have a 2005 Sienna that's great with our 2year old and dog. Second child due in october and our other car is a 1987 Audi that is less and less functional with the growing family. The Outlander will replace the Audi. We keep our vehicles a loooong time, so mechanical longevity is key.

I found that if you can track down the internet sales person a lot of times they will offer closer to invoice than the floor sales. I found them through edmunds and the dealers websites.

Sometimes you can call ask for the internet sales person and bluff that you emailed and didnt hear back.
