There are some known concerns with this Trans, but none that i have seen that require replacement of the entire transmission.
But that is for here in Australia, seeing as yours is an outlander sport i must assume you are in North America?
Was he speaking about a repair that you would be expected to pay for? or was it a warranty concern?

Did they document on your invoice about the fault code? if they did, and you do nothing about it, then it can be argued you failed to maintain your car correctly.
I think the Technician was just doing the right thing.
We report all faults back to our customers, whether it is in warranty or not, but we have to evidence everything back to Mitsubishi, with photos, data files from scantools and fauty parts, so it is very tough to pretend there is a problem when there is not
