Default Daylight Running Lights

On Thanksgiving day I discovered a feature on my 08 SE that I was not aware of.
Went to a relative's for dinner. As we were leaving, it was dark. We were parked right
in front of their closed garage door. Started the Outlander, as we were close to the doors
I noticed no DRL on. Wait a minute, the engine is running,STILL NO DRL.
Sloping driveway, parking brake on. The instant I released the parking brake the DRL
came right on. Tried ita couple times, sure enough, on and off!
Anybody else notice this?

Its on page 3-192 of the US manual; "When the engine is started and the parking brake is released The daytime running lights will be illuminated".

In my opinion they should be off if the car is in Park.

Yes, but that wouldn't work with a manual transmission, all cars have parking brakes.
