Anyone knows what kind of camera they are talking about?

Camera is the same, but its display is in the rear view mirror.

Because US dumb legislator are asking for it so parent don't back up over their child's. Same as TPMS. (we are too lazy to check).

Here is the introduction schedule... And since MHI is an obedient manufacturer they will be part of the 2012 group.

This helped A LOT! THANK YOU!

I wish you put something on how to properly take out the back cover. Then I realized I just needed to pull it. It was rather hard plus I didn't want to damage it but unfortunately, I pulled a little too hard and cracked a small part of it. Good thing it was unnoticeable. Then I followed almost all your steps except I didn't need to pull the plastic exterior part like you did. I only needed a little wiggle room to insert my camera. Good thing it fits perfectly and I didn't need to cut & drill it like you did. I guess it all depends on the camera you bought right? Got mine on ebay. Maybe I bought something that's specifically for an Outlander. Anyway, it took me about 3 hours to do a good job in running & hiding all the wires like you did but overall, I couldn't have done it without your guide! Thank you so much!

================================================== =================================
Looks like I'm gonna do this all over again! I traded my 2010 Outlander ES to a 2012 Outlander SE! Good thing this tutorial is still here or else I'm in deep trouble! I just hope I won't crack the back cover this time. =)

Nobody is using the rear camera wireless kit such as the one in the link below?

All you need is to mount the camera, hook up ground and +12V, then do the same on the wireless reciever behind the navi unit or in the headliner for the rear view mirror..

Finally got myself a backup camera.
Took me about 1 hour to install.

Parking radar capable of overlaying distance and directions over the camera video.
WIP means Work In Progress, sensors are not yet installed :)

I like that parking radar you can see in one monitor or camera!!! Good job vadimus!!! can you give me feedback after you install the sensors? thanks!!

Funny thing, I haven't found schematics where to find the backup light wire.
I though it would be in that free connector behind the rear right wheel arc, but no luck yet.

But I also have a good news too - huge Drawtite Class 3 hitch pointing out of bumper for at least 5"-6" seems not interfering with middle sensors.

dmagic17 06-19-2012 01:13 PM

I need to do this. So for power, are both the mirror and camera tapping into reverse lights for power so that they both activate at reverse or does the monitor only activate when it gets a video signal? If so, where are you making the reverse light connection?

Thanks!

Vadimus 06-19-2012 02:03 PM

Just installed the sensors:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Z...0/IMAG0270.jpg

The places for the sensors are similar to factory-installed ones.

Mirror display is connected to passenger's sun visor light. It turns on when there is a video signal on any of 2 inputs, and nput 2 has a priority if both are active same time.

Right now I take reverse signal from tail backup light.
Purple wire mentioned in a hitch topic as a backup light power is always on if the ignition is on regardles R or D.

And this monitor clips on to the existing mirror rather than replacing it correct? What does it look like from the side?

Now trying to get rid of clipping to stock mirror. There's a pit on the back of the display mirror for attaching the mount.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-8...0/IMAG0299.jpg

Looking for donor mirror to borrow mount from. Not yet ready to ruin stock mirror though.

hi vadimus! I got the monitor last friday and easy to install, the power just tapped to reverse light but every time you put on the reverse you will see i think 3 different setting like first one without lane warning then next v1PAL with lane warning sign and last one v1NTSC with lane warning sign. I like the last setting more bright and clear. How can i set into one setting only? i try to press the 3 button on the back but nothing....pls help me???

My cam starts as a PAL with no lines, next R-N-R shift makes it work in NTSC with lines.
I am going to find out how to change this to NTSC/no lines - lines doe not take into consideration the fact that camera is both shifted and tilted. Besides, at night bright lines decrease overall image contrast.

My camera is connected to AV2 as it has priority over AV1 (if both are active same time AV2 is shown).
For me it does matter as I occasionally connect AV1 to my BlackVue dashcam.

Buttons on the back of the mirror are +, Menu, -.
I'd recommend to increase brightness/contrast to help image be visible in a bright sunlight.

Finally got this in - Ended up picking up this rear view mirror Amazon.com: Boss Audio BV4.3RM Rear View Mirror: Car Electronics. It's a full replacement for the mirror and I think looks pretty OEM.

Then I used the camera you recommended and tossed the crap one the mirror came with.

Thanks for the help Vad

Do you still have a factory mirror, BTW?
If so, what do you think about selling it? ;)

Hmm I'll probably hang on to it just in case, but I'll let you know if I change my mind.

Interesting project Vadimus. This set work in my MMCS? As the MMCS includes reference lines, can be deleted from your camera? You can share a close up picture of your sensors? I would like to see the fitment in relation with Out body once installed. What about the PQ of the camera?

I'll in touch :)

There is a way to disable lines from camera. On MMCS, with its adjustable lines, picture should look great.

I'll post the close-up pics of sensors later.

As for the picture quality I am totally satisfied. Even more, I like it more comparing to factory installed camera on 2012 Outlander of my friends.

Yo're welcome, your projects are great. I ordered the camera because I like the OEM look, I will wait to buy the sensors to see how them is fitted in your Outie :)

Saludos. . .

Here are the sensors.
They are pretty standard 22mm ultrasonic sensors used on most aftermarket parking aids.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-A...0/IMAG0726.jpg

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-W...0/IMAG0727.jpg

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-a...0/IMAG0728.jpg

Installation is easy. Remove spare tire, both fogs/side marker and optionally right tail light.

The sensor fitment convinced me, now only need to know if I can paint it to match the body color with my Out, I appreciate your time to take and share photos :) And no doubt, the camera looks just like the OEM camera. . .

dmagic17 08-08-2012 05:53 PM

So I finished the install on this about a month ago. Well starting Monday, I've had to jumpstart my car every morning. I thought the battery was bad, but the Mitsu dealer told me there is a 1 amp draw on the battery when I turn it off causing it to drain overnight. They asked me if I had any aftermarket things wired to a power source and I told them about the mirror. After a couple hours of investigation they hadn't figured out where the draw was coming from, but said they think it's coming from the taillights. They suggested it could be the mirror improperly wired. I do have the camera wired to the white and black wires of the tail light to only power on when the reverse lights are on. The power for the mirror itself comes from the dome light with the signal coming from the same white reverse light mirror.

Do you think this could be related? Any way to test for sure?

In the meantime they have me pulling the Ignition Off Draw fuse when I park the car for long periods.

Vadimus, about ultrasonic sensors, the unit of measure displayed on the screen is configurable (centimeters or inches) or not? Thank's :)

It's a meter scale, so 0.7 means 70 centimeters.
