Default Engine Number

Hello,
In order to register my outlander with local authorities (2007, japanese model), the engine number has to be physically verified. I spend many hours trying to find out where is the spot.
The manual says something about the location, (screenshot attached). It should be on the right side of the engine. However, after many hours, it is no where to find!

I can imagine it should be somewhere visible, not sure about the rational of hiding this valuable information somewhere under the engine?

Is there anybody out there whofaced the samepuzzle and was able tosolve it?

Default RE: Engine Number

I have the V6 (US Model). My Engine Serial Number is left (Driver) side front of engine. Right above the frame crossmember. Easy to see.

I attached a pic of the Diesel engine (Europe) serial number location from user manual. Hope that helps you.
