Really there isn't much to test... You decide all the options you want and then encode/write them.

And if you own like 10 cars you can probably afford to buy a $5 credit from them.

They might have made it so you don't need to be connected to the internet to use the software, the old version was working well enough that I just kept using it.

I mean testing of different options on the car.
Last I read, it still had to be online. It would be nice if it didn't. But I am guessing that's how they keep the file size down.

I don't own 10 cars, but I have a lot of friends that will want stuff done once I get going. Lol
It will get used on my car quite a bit though.

Most options will just break your car unless you have appropriate hardware...
The rest is pretty straight forward you only have 1-3 very straight forward choices for each option... and I can't see any reason for using it quite a bit...

Ex. Door Locks: Unlock driver door or Unlock all doors.. How often would you need to change something like that?

The old software does the calculations locally and was tiny. I think they moved it to their servers so they could enforce the limits so people wouldn't be able to hack it since the code isn't in the software. Fortunately most modern phones support Mobile Hotspots so you can just use a few bytes of data to do the encoding. It's inconvenient but people kinda wrecked it for themselves.

Most people use it to turn on and off TPMS which equates to 2 uses a year.

I think that's how it started, people started helping friends and then friends of friends and then people started getting paid to do it and then they wanted some money for actually writing the software...

I don't think asking your friends for $0.50 or $1 to change their car settings would be the end of the world.. alternatively you could ask them to wait until the following day.

If you don't like it you can install Diagbox and Windows XP and wait 30 minutes for it to load :P

If you have more than 4 friends a day that need settings changed I guess you'll have to suck it up and charge them a few bucks to do it. The prices are really cheap anyway and it will be cheaper than buying their own tool.

There are definitely more than 3 options. And when I say used quite a bit, I mean for testing purposes. I like to push the envelope, which is exactly what this thread is about.
Hopefully I can work with these guys to do that.
If not, it's still definitely worth it.

Yeah, the hacking part makes sense why they did it this way.
I don't mind paying the few bucks for what they are offering us.
And you are right, I am not trying to make money from people but I am not going to pay for the server hits for their car you know?

It took 30 minutes to load each time?
Or was that only initially. The biggest thing with Diagbox was how easy it was to kill communication between the SST and ECU. Lol

The only thing that would make it better was if I could run it on a Raspberry Pi. I'd install one behind the dash. Haha
But then I would want to run my AEM software and 360.3 software on it too. Lol

ETACS isn't a performance thing nor is it like re flashing your ECU... It's mostly about alarms and lights and sensors... There's not really an envelope to push... I'm not sure what you expect of the system but based on what your saying it sounds like you are expecting something it isn't..

It gives you a fixed list of "switches" you can toggle and that's about it..The most customizable settings have like 4 or 5 options within them but like 90% of the settings are either on or off. There are 200 or so "switches" but most of them are pretty useless like what fabric is used or what type of transmission you have or if you have a wheel angle sensor or not... Most of the settings relate directly to what sensors are on the car and turning on or off something that doesn't exist will just cause system errors.

As far as advances in what it can actually do, if they come at all they come super slowly and are generally limited by what the software is setup to allow by Mitsu. This isn't hacking or custom firmware or anything it's just toggling settings that the dealer can toggle.

Well it's 50 cents per hit if you get the small pack.. If your going to do a ton you can get 50 hits for 30 cents each... They aren't expensive...

Again you get to set every option you want before you actually hit the server so it really only uses a hit when you finish all your selections.

Yeah Diagbox was a dog.. It took 15-20 minutes to load and get to the right section and had so many "traps" where you could press the wrong thing and break everything. It was also super confusing and Diagbox is actually pirated so it actually attempts to update the firmware in your cable and then locks you out (there's a fix for this but it's a huge pain to not have the cable connected when starting it)

Initially it takes like an hour or two to install... And I believe it kills SSTs every time but there's a single option you need to change to fix that problem... IG DELAY or something like that.

I don't know why you'd want ED on your dash... You can get the MMCS (OEM navigation) if you want to change how long your lights stay on and you don't have to reboot your car to change the settings then :P

Not really. Dealers ares pretty limited regarding amount of options available to them, like glorious TPMS setting

I understand it isn't perfect, that there are no power gains, and that it is not like an ECU flash.

I know most of them are just on off that you don't touch. But, I feel there may be things we can try to do. Auto driver window up, auto close sunroof, etc. These are things the Outlander can do, so why not the Lancer/Evo?

I completely agree, it's cheap to use their server. That's why I have no issue paying for it.
And I understand now that you can change all your settings and only use one hit. That makes it nice.

Yeah, I think I will skip using Diagbox.

I don't have OEM Nav. The point of having it in the dash is just for ****s and gigs. Lol

I used to run a car audio installation garage, so I am always am finding little things to do like that to tinker with. Haha

I do really appreciate all of the info though man.
You have helped me greatly.
I think I will run cat5 to the garage this week so I can install a router. This will help me with Internet signal issues I would normally have.

Finally! you can go through and see how much of the things I said are complete BS :P

I knew about the TPMS but I thought most of the other stuff they could do with their fancy MUT III but they get to program keys!!

I called Mitsu for recalls and they said I had none and then a week later I got a recall letter in the mail.

They are going to replace my blower motor for free and apparently they are also going to replace my poor ETACS controller I hope they don't wreck it.

As long as you read the OP on this thread and understand the main things it can do, don't want you to be disappointed.

The auto sunroof is the only thing the '10 outlander has, the windows are on '09 and older because they removed the hardware that made that possible.

I'm not sure how Vad figured out the sunroof thing but he might be able to assist if the hardware is in your car and it's somewhere in the factory code.

Like I said for the most part they allow enough hits for personal use and a little playing around.

I would had skipped Diagbox too but ETACS wasn't public when I started.

The OEM nav would be a lot easier to use in car than ED for screwing with settings on the go.. Seems like Windows is their main platform....

Tinkering is fun until you break something :P

Good luck, I will do what I can to help if you have questions..

I won't be disappointed, it will do what I need/want even at its bare minimum. But I totally understand where you are coming from with that. So I appreciate it!

I thought all the Outlanders could do the sunroof. Makes sense about the hardware in the ETACS computer though. I didn't think about that.
So hopefully he can chime in on that and if it's possible on other platforms.

I agree they should be enough most of the time.
And I figured Windows would be it. No biggie. Haha

Hopefully breaking things doesn't happen, but I definitely will be playing.

Once again I appreciate everything!
