Question ETACS Outlander 2014

Hi all,
I recently purchase a second hand Outlander PHEV 2014 Model and this is my first Mitsubishi. The car is great, but a few days ago the front wipers stopped working and I took it to the dealership to get it diagnosed. It turns out to be a faulty ETACS, that needs to be replaced at cost of $2,000 (In Norway). Being handy myself I thought I can get a second hand ETACS and replace it myself, but according to the dealership service department it cannot be replaced with a second hand ETACS as it cannot be re-programmed. Anyone that have experience with this and can advise?

Your advice is greatly appreciated
Mosta

You need to be able download the configuration from your current ETACS, which gives you the ability to write the VIN to the replacement ETACS, as well as program the keys. your current keys may not be compatible with the replacement ETACS, therefore these might need replacing also.

There is ETACS programming software available on the internet, but i have never used it or even seen it. I have access to Dealer tool

Thank you DibbyDibbyDJ
Is it possible to repair the faulty ETACS? I am also puzzled that only the front wipers are not working as I was expecting more things malfunctioning with faulty ETACS. Could it be the wiper motor that needs to be replaced?

It is possible your wiper motor has failed, its easy to check if you have a test light or voltmeter available. Reomve wiper arms and the unclip the plastic panel underneath them that sits at the bottom of the windscreen. the motor is just under there. Unplug the motor and connect tester whilst trying different speeds and different pins. You should have power at at least 2 of them, maybe 3. if this is the case then the ETACS is fine and its the motor or motor earth that is faulty. If you have no power, then the ETACS is the likely cause.

The ETACS has the relay and timer built in to it for the wipers. It is this part that has failed. Other functions may be fine.

Thanks for the advise DibbyDibbyDJ

Anything in particular that I need to remember for unclipping the plastic panel? is it fastened with any screws? Also, should use the motor body as the ground when testing for voltage

The motor body is insulated from ground, so i would either use battery negative or a engine earth point.

Plastic panel has 3 or 4 small clips along the bottom. Just be careful it can scratch easily.
