Default Faint clicking noise from engine compartment

I see some other posts on clicking noises, but this one is different from the posts I found.

I have a 2007 LS. Yesterday, I started hearing a faint clicking noise coming from somewhere in the engine compartment. It can't be heard other than inside the car; it's drowned out by other noises when you go out and lift the hood. It is continuous and occurs at about 1/2 second intervals. It is fairly unform but sometimes two clicks occur at one- click, click, clickey-click, click... It sounds almost like a spark. Speed, gear, and turning off the air or the lights doesn't affect the noise rate- as long as the car is on it makes the noise.

Any idea what it could be? I'm going to take the car in this afternoon.

This is just a guess, but I've read that the fuel injectors can give off a clicking, or tapping type of noise and this is normal for them.

Normal! Try turning off your A/C or heater

Hmmm...never noticed the noise before yesterday, though! I would also think that such a noise would vary with how fast the car was idling, and the rate doesn't vary at all. We'll see if the repair shop finds anything...

As I stated, the noise occurs regardless of whether the air is on or off. It definitely doesn't have anything to do with the air.
