Default FAST key- 2016 SEL

Couldn't find our fob last night so grabbed the spare that hasn't been used in a about a year. None of the buttons worked so changed the battery. Still no go and discovered that if I open the driver door with the emergency key alarm system goes off. Tried putting it in the FAST key slot but still nothing.

Luckily we found the good fob and got the alarm shut off. Put the spare in the FAST key slot and started the car with the good fob in hand. Shut down, took the good fob away and car still won't start with the spare fob in the car or in the slot. Buttons on fob do nothing- seems like it is no longer paired to the car.

Any thoughts? Are we going to have to take it to a dealer? Hopefully not too expensive.

Cost to re-program Fast Key was $62.50. Was told that likely the key was near a cell phone or microwave oven and get de-programmed. HAven't seen posts regarding this so wondering if is a fact.

Car is less than 2 years old and this was one of the original fobs. We kept it as our backup and changed the battery when we changed the battery in the fob we normally use.

Not terribly happy that we had to pay for the fob's failure. I'm concerned about getting stuck somewhere because the fob failed again

I have to move mine away from my cell phone to be the car started if they’re in the same pocket. I have my keys by my phone all the time and haven’t had a problem. I can’t say that I’ve put them in the microwave though.

Wasn't in the microwave- was on top of it. Still don't think that should de-program a fob
