Default FCM activated without warning

So I just had an interesting thing happen yesterday morning. I was driving about 35mph down a two lane road, there was not a car (or anything) in front of me for a good city block when suddenly the car started braking and beeping. It lasted all of a second and then things just kept on as normal. Luckily the guy behind me did not rear-end me as my car just started hitting brakes for no reason at all. That would be a real fun accident to try to explain.

I’ve had the system beep at me one other time before with the “BRAKE!” notification while driving but never has it just hit the brakes. There was no warning before it happened either.

Anyone else seen this? I will be bringing this up with my dealer.

Unfortunately, just like autonomous driving, automatic breaking or forward collision mitigation systems are far from being perfect these days. In contrast to their purpose they may cause accidents.
Here are some examples (some involving even recalls) and owners' satisfaction statistics by brands:

What you experienced is not unique as per these above reports. I doubt that any personnel at the dealership can do anything.
Luxury brands are also subjected to false alarms:

False Alarm... City Safety Activated today!

Yeah... Par for course with new technology I suppose, I guess I’m just a bit surprised at WHERE this happened. It would have made sense to me if there was something there that could have caused it but I was on a pretty open 5 lane road with nothing but a motorcycle to my left and traffic behind, no fences, no metal grates, nothing I would have figured would confuse the system... Was a sunny day perfect weather in the 90s.

Was also surprised that I got no warning prior, figured that it would do the “BRAKE!” warning at least slightly before slaming on brakes.

I’m taking it in tomorrow, guessing they will pull some data from the system, seen in other reports that Mitsubishi has wanted that data from other vehicles (saw another report on a PHEV forum of similar issue).

Yup, pretty much exactly what I experienced except on a perfectly straight road with nothing really around me to trigger it - Their reactions were also amusing, when it happened to me I’ll admit it got my heart pumping a bit, it was rather startling.

yes it has happened to me while towing a trailer.
It does it when turning a corner. They just lock up.
No warning or beeps.

I had the same happen today.

ASX Exceed 2021 model. Melbourne, Australia.

A hot day driving in the city, in traffic. A cyclist was up ahead but there was a good distance between us, certainly no chance of a collision. The car emergency braked for no reason.

My wife in the passenger seat, 38 weeks pregnant. It shocked us both.

I will certainly be taking this up with Mitsubishi.

I read there is a recall active in Europe for this.
