Default General maintenance

Hey there fellow mitsu warriors I have a question about general maintenance on my 2011 outlander. (SE 2.4l) Since Ive been a truck guy all my life I have always known what works good when dealing with the general replacement parts on my trucks..IE...(run down to my nearest wal mart or auto parts store and get Fram filters, mobil one oil, champion spark plugs, etc.) But this is my first car and a Japanese make also. I know these Jap vehicles are more fine tuned than a pickup truck. There are so many general replacement parts out on the market today including ones for imports. I need to know what would be the good name brands that run on our mitsubishis. OIL filter....AIR filter.....Spark plug....OIL brand. Just these four parts. I guess we probably could limit the oil brand to two brands...Mobil 1 or Castrol syntec. If the store/general/popular brands work just as well..IE..( fram, purolator,NAPA,champion, etc) thats Ok also.. I know the personal preference factor is always out there but you guys have run these mitsu's longer than I have. Here is some import brands Ive been kicking around... Bosch,Denso,NGK,..etc......Thanks All

Now days there isnt a heck of a lot different in the way a new truck and a new import truck work. Personally I stay away from store branded, or "cheaper" stuff. Not because its an import but just because you get what you pay for in alot of cases.

In short, stick with your mobil one, fram... I dunno about fram they're not that bad I suppose. NGK makes an awesome spark plug and they're not that expensive. Then I'd get yourself a K&N air filter and your set. That would take care of all the routine maint stuff anyways.

For oil, I've had excellent results with Pennzoil Platinum and Mobile1. I ran Castrol Edge and it threw off the used oil analysis. Search for my username and you'll find my UOAs. Oil filters, I usually get what is on sale at AdvanceAuto Parts...usually end up Mobile1, PureOne, or Bosch. I'd shy away from Fram...they seem to be on the low end. For oil stuff, read up at Bob Is The Oil Guy forums. More than you'd ever want to know about oils, filters, analysis, and more....with a giant user base.

Air filters, I know a local o'reilly's I can get WIX filters. K&N make filters...but it sounds pretty involved when you are cleaning it...pass. Since the filter has a built-in housing, fewer makers take the time to make them.

Plugs are good for 100k miles....so worry about that later.

To figure out acceptable fluids and oils, Amsoil's webpage has a neat application. The only thing...you must use Mitsubishi ATF fluid...no way out of that one.

Not too many aftermarket parts for the Outlander though. Colt-Speed is a sponsor here...but you gotta be in the right scene for something they have. Someone dug up an outfit that had a lift kit for 07+.

I'd read older threads to get an idea of what goes out. I think with the state of oils, as long as you keep them fresh...should last a while. If you get under it and really look at it, it is just like any other vehicle, just more electronics and a few specialized systems.

I like my Ranger for its simplicity and utility. I like the Outlander for safety and capability for my wife.
