Default havoline vs. dia-queen j2??

Looking to do a trans drain and fill this weekend. can anyone tell me if havoline dextron vi will work? it says compatible with J3.. My 07 xls V6 calls for J2.. If not , is there a cheaper alternative than dealer j fluid? I have searched the forum and cant find a definite answer for the havoline j3...THANKS

Just buy the J2, probably only need about 4-5 quarts if not doing a flush and it's $12 a quart at the dealer. $60 is alot of money, but it's only something you do every so many thousands miles.

Page 2, top right. Havoline Dextron VI is ATF J2 and J3 rated.

I used it for my 10 GT S-AWC 2 months ago, works great. I did the full flush buy using the method of removing the lower cooler line process found on here in a sticky post.

Was $55 for 12 quarts from Amazon with free shipping.

Thanks for that link! My wife and I have a 2010 XLS, too, and this is a much less expensive option than the Diaqueen.

I assume that you do not think that flushing your AT with the Havoline will void the drivetrain warranty. I can't help but wonder if Mitsubishi feels the same way now that some owners are robbing them of their pound of flesh.

I am the second owner so the 10/100 drivetrain is not in effect. It now has 82k on the clock. I do have a 4/48 aftermarket warranty and feel that if I did not do preventative maintenance they could void the warranty for that. I feel they would have a hard time claiming an issue if I am doing what I can to prolong the life/condition of the vehicle.

I followed the factory service manual to the letter. The only thing I did do was capture and carefully measure how much I removed in each of the 3 steps and re-added only what I took out of it at each step.

I ended up using just over 9 quarts.

I am currently on a 2500 mile trip out east now and the tranny has been flawless. Havoline Dextron VI is good to go.

Fantastic, and I'm glad your vehicle operates well with the Havoline!

The reason I mentioned the warranty is that here in Canada the original 10/yr - 160,000 km warranty is fully transferrable to subsequent owners. It's a great selling tool for Canadians who are selling used Mitsubishi vehicles whose mileage is still under the age/km limit. The new owner gets a used vehicle that actually has a full factory warranty for at least some period of time. How can either party beat that?

Anyway, thanks again for the great tip about the Havoline.

Have a great trip!
