ORIGINAL: JMC

Read this: "I recently picked up a 2005 Outlander XLS"
We are talking about a 2005 Outlander not the '07 which we all know does not haveHeated rear view mirrors.

Just picked up my 07 XLS AWD Outie from the dealer today. I noticed in the owners manual, they listed a fuse for, "heated rear-view mirrors". I will back it up tomorrow by actually checking the underhood fuse block and post back here.

As a side note, has anyone made comments about 07 XLS AWD's coming with California emissions as standard? Minehas the CA emissionsand was purchased in Nevada. I live in a part of Utah where emissions testing isn't required, just safetyinspections.

I checked the fuse block, on the car, the one that's inside the carjust below the ASCswitch and behind the small pulloutstorage pocket, and can confirm a 7.5 amp fuse is installed for heated side view mirrorsjust as the manuals diagram shows.(Position 22 per the manual) So I guess the heated side view mirror issue is solved for 07 Outies?

as for CA emmisions, all cars sold in the US have them. Your out of luck anywhere else cause cali sucks. See, its more expensive for manufacturers to make cars for every diffrent state, than to go by the state with the stricktest rules, and make all the cars they sell meet that criterion.

As for the heated side view mirrors, How do you turn them on? by turning on the rear defroster?

Yes, it looks like the side view mirrors will defrost when you depress the rear window defroster switch. Cycle is 20 minutes. I'm not sure if all models have this. My Outie is a top tier XLS.

So you're saying all the 07 Outlanders have the Cali emissions? Besides a different radiator, what else is different? Mitsubishi says the Cali/PZEV Outies have 213 hp vs. 220? I can hardly believe there would be a differenceunless they have a more restrictive exhaust system, i.e. different catylitic converter. Oh well, not worth getting worried about 7 hp right? :-) Mine seems to run perfect even at my near 6000' elevation.

I find the heated side mirrors to work quite good on my 04 Outlander (it's the EU "Sport" trim, comparable with the XLS because it has everything except leather seats, and 17" wheels). It's really a handy feature I use a lot.
They need only a few minutes to dry up most of the rain drops...
does it work the same way on the 07 Outlander, and which trims have the heated mirrors? because I'm confused with what JMC said about the heated mirrors
regards

Thank you all for your response, it made for some interesting reading.
I would still like to know if anybody can answer my original question "can these heated mirrors be fitted without too many problems, is the wiring already there in the doors? "

OK, so heated side mirrors have been discussed, and 2005 and 2007 models have been discussed. But I don't see in this discussion that the obvious question was answered....

Is there anyone who can confirm that for 2007 Outlander XLS models, that not only is there an associated fuse for heated side mirrors, and wiring to the side view mirrors existing, but that there really is a heating element in each of the two side view mirrors that energizes with the rear window defroster?

We live in COLD North Dakota. We receive 7 inches of snow last week. I tried the rear defrost with hopes the snow would MELT off the mirrors...but NO luck. I drive 25 minutes to work and when I got to work, the mirrors were STILL full of snow. I have the XLS loaded model and there can't be heated mirrors in my outlander. ARGHHHHHHHH.

When we got the snow ice storm deal a couple weeks ago I let my car warm up for 10 mins and drove to work 10 mins. The ice on the side mirrors didnt melt one bit. There is no way they are wired up with heaters. Not unless they run off like .01 volts and take 30 hours to warm up.
