Default Hood dents at Hinge Location (2007 XLS)

I have started to noticed small dents on the top my hood right where the hinges attached from underneath.Having a black outie makes every dent and ding show up.

These can be seen froman angle, looking across the hood.

I will try and take photos, soon.

Anyoneelse see or have this happen yet?

I have a grey outie and noticed a ding in the center of my hood. I never knew a rock could fly up and ding the center top section of my hood like it did. But its there and it could only be from a rock.

EVERYONE PLEASE RESPOND TO HIS POST! (Yes or No)

I also have these same dents(creases/ripples) at the same location on my 2007 LS AWD! My mom also has a 2007 XLS with them!

I will take pictures of both cars and post them monday. Im thinking it could be a widespread problem and the dealer should be responsible to fix it if alot of cars have the same issue.

I noticed it about a week after buying my silver outie... knowing that i didnt cause the dents. Then i saw them on my moms and was like WTF?

Lets get this noticed please!

Anyone got pics? I haven't noticed any on mine yet, but the hood has only been opened a few times. More frequent use of the hood may put additional stress on the hinge attachment points.

With the sheet metal used by auto manufacturers getting thinner every year, this is probably going to be a common problem. Do you guys recallthe earlierpost about the tire jack bumping the inside of the storage compartment and causing a dent on the outside of the rear quarter panel. If that's any indication of how easy it is to dent our 'Landers then we haven't heard the last of these types of issues.

Nothing on mine either, got mine silver 08 XLS since Nov 07

I access under my hood at least twice amonth to clean / check belts / levels / etc after I've done cleaning it. I am not aware this action may put stress on the hings which cause damage to the hood...

The hings are attached via a hollow U-channel under the hood, I cannot concludethat the reported dents may be due to the stress being put on thehings, likely a manufacturing defect.

Good pics. Your deduction makes sense that the opening/lowering of the hood shouldn't be related to the dents. It's odd that several members have similar issues though.

Maybe those of you with the dents could post pics of them so we could compare and see if wecan determine a commonality (likea service tech leaning on the hood, or hood flexing during opening/closing).

My Outtie is an early 2007/January and so far, I don't have any dents. You can see this in the recent photos of my LED lights.

Could how hard the hood is closed be a factor in the hinge dents?
I'll only release the hood from the lowest height that the hood will latch, about 4 inches.(From the bottom point of the latch)
The hood does seem to bekinda heavy.

Aloha!
Take care!
