Default How to Replace Side Mirror on 2007 Outlander XLS

I recently replaced the driver's side mirror on my GF's 07 Outlander XLS...this is after I broke the hell out of it by backing into a fence. I purchased a really good used mirror assembly from Chuck's Auto Salvage in PA. I had broken the white/black housing and the mirror itself, so I figured it would be better to replace the whole thing. A used mirror was $103.

I had searched for instructions here, but didn't find anything complete...so here is what I did.

1. Open the door and remove the small Speaker/cover in the corner. This is easily pulled off, no tools. I tried to remove the speaker wire lead, but ended up leaving it on as it required force and I didn't want to force it.

2. Remove the small cover from behind the inside door hand/opener. I scratched mine using a small screwdriver when I think a thumbnail could have pushed it out. Use a medium Philips screwdriver to remove the screw...mine stayed connected and didn't completely come out.

3. Grasp the door panel from the corner where you removed the speaker and gently pry it away from the door. I did not remove the whole door panel, just opened it enough to work with the socket wrench.

4. In the corner that you pried away, reach in and disconnect the power mirror lead.

5. Using a Socket or box/open Wrench, remove the three nuts from the mirror's posts. For me, the mirror did not fall out as the posts/bolts are long enough to keep it leveraged in.

6. Once the nuts are off, remove the mirror from the door. and toss...unless there are salvageable parts...

7. Thread the power lead of the replacement mirror through the main, larger hole then align the three posts and insert. Hand tighten the nuts to the posts/bolts.

8. Gently pry open the corner of the door panel and connect the Power lead.

9. Turn on car and test the power mirror, make sure everything works.

10. Finish tightening all nuts and check fit making sure the mirror is correctly seated.

11. Gently, but forcibly Push the door panel in the places where the clips are to reconnect the corner you pried loose.

12. Replace the corner speaker by aligning the single plastic post with the corresponding hole and gently push in, it should 'click' into place.

13. Tighten the philips screw that is under the inside door handle/release.

14. Replace the small plastic cover.

15 Bask in the glow of having a happy Significant Other.
