Default Installation of Mudguards?

For anyone who has installed the OEM mudguards, did youuse the "primer" they mention in theinstructions? What is it for? I'm assuming it's to adhere the sticky tape, but seems odd.

I've put mudguards on several other vehicles and never ever had to use a primer...and i never had an issue with the guards falling off or coming loose.

I didn't use primer on it. It's been several months already. Just use the screws that came with the package. Its looks awesome once you have it on.

I think the primer is there to make sure there is no water residue. I used Isopropyl Alcohol instead. I did buy the 3M Automotive Adhesion Promoter packets #6369, for adhesion to the plastic part though. You just need one packet which usually runs for $1.25.

I was very impressed with the fit of the mud guards and how easy the install was on my 07. It only took about 20 mins and they look great.

I went ahead and installed them without primer and they fit perfectly and snug to the body lines. I just used isopropyl alcohol to clean off excess wax/grime and the overall install was surprisingly easy. Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear they hold up well over time and winter conditions.

During the install I did notice that i had very minimal rock damage to the fenderwells. Maybe it's because they usedless salt this year...but i'm not sure. I actually had more paint chips on my front bumper cowl than anywhere else.
