Lighting function or a fault???

Question Lighting function or a fault???

Hi guys,
New here so please be gentle. Tried everywhere I can think of for an answer to this but coming up blank...
I have a 07 Outlander Warrior and I'm just wondering if the following is a fault or a function that I always had but didn't know about.
I leave my lights turned on on the stalk all the time (I think it's safer to be seen). When I turn off the engine and take out the key they stay on until I get out and close the door, then switch off themselves. Normally they don't come on until I start the engine again but this evening, when I unlocked the car with the remote (as I always do) the headlights came on straightaway - like the "see-me-home" function that I've seen on other models of car.
Trouble is, I can't figure out why it happened (I've not changed anything), and I can't get it to do it again.
I'm stumped... the Outlander doesn't have that function does it?!?

I'd be careful, it seems that your Outlander is learning!
I can't say for sure but it sounds like a glitch. I'm not aware of a feature that turns your lights on automatically with the key fob.

BTW, instead of using your headlights as daytime running lights, install a turn signal DRL module. You can get one from Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy. A video of it in action can be seen

A Daytime Running Lamp module provides a fully automatic Daytime Running Light function by operating the vehicle's front directional signals steadily, except when they are flashing as turn signals. This DRL implementation complies with US and Canadian DRL performance requirements, and has major advantages over headlamp-based DRLs. Because directional signals are legally required to shine light in a wide angle, the DRLs are visible through a wide horizontal angle for maximum conspicuity and safety benefit in avoiding angular collisions with pedestrians, bicyclists and other motorists. Turn signal bulbs cost much less, consume much less power and have a much longer lifespan than headlamp bulbs. There is no undue glare with turn signal DRLs, as can be a problem with headlamp-based DRLs... All of the vehicle's original lighting functions—turn signals, hazard flashers, parking lamps, etc.—carry on working as they always have.
Plus you don't prematurely burn out the other dozen bulbs that are on with the headlights. There are installation options (connect or don't connect one wire) to determine whether engaging the turn signal kills the other-side DRL. If interested, see this installation writeup here.
